The Longleaf Partners Small-Cap Fund topped its benchmark, the Russell 2000 index, for the second quarter and first six months of 2012, fund managers Staley Cates and Mason Hawkins noted in their semi-annual report, released this week.
For the second quarter, the fund gained 3 percent vs. the index loss of 3.5 percent. For the year through June 30, the fund is up 13.2 percent vs. the index gain of 8.5 percent.
